How Planetary & Personal Wellness

Are Intertwined

HOW TO FIND SELF LOVE ON A JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABILITY

When we moved into our camper-van, we did it to explore and discover the world, what we didn't expect is how much we would fall in love with nature. Little by little, we realized that we had built a tight link between our health and our planet's health.. We are one in the same.

When you think about it, all the things that are tearing us appart, that are making our everyday life difficult, are things that are hurting the planet too. To find a balance within yourself is tightly linked with having a thriving planet, and here is why.

HERE YOU WILL FIND ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP US STAY CLOSE TO NATURE, AND CLOSE TO OURSELVES

1. BASICS FIRST

All of the things we think of when taking care of ourselves go hand in hand with taking care of the earth. Our first go to is at the root of our well being : clean eating.

Nourishing our bodies with organic, fresh from the ground fruits and vegetables that will give us all the nutrients we need to be healthy and full of vitality. When food has been produced by farmers respectful of the soils, that grew close enough to you to not have crosses oceans and continents and is presented to you in it's simplest form, we rip all of the benefits that nature has to offer, without stepping all over it.

Eating fresh and simple food might not be as intuitive as we think, because we have lost the habit of cooking from scratch. So when cruising the supermarket isles in doubt, a trick is to look at how many ingredients are present in your food, especially with the pre-made meals and snacks.

Where were those meals prepped, what was added to them to give them the right color, the right texture, the right taste, and what is it all packaged in before being reaching the grocery store.

When eating fresh produce that you assemble yourself, you take care of your body, and you take care of your planet - the added bonus being, cooking is a wonderful way to take care of your mind too. Cooking for me is a sacred time because I am treating myself to something delicious and giving my mind a break for a second, letting my hands do the work.

If cooking is not your thing, you can always batch make meals for your week, freezing it into containers and mason jars to enjoy on busy nights, like you would with store bought meals. Just crank up some music, and let smells and textures take you away in a swirl of senses.

2. GET A LITTLE CLOSER

Shopping simpler, with less packaging, less wrappers, less containers is another incredible proof that our wellness is linked with our planet's. Leading a low waste life invites a closer relationship with nature, a bond that means that you are part of the solution, and that, is the best reward you can get.

The self-estime boost I get when shopping in the bulk section, and getting into conversations with people who comment on my little bags is a rush. Although very little people are confident in being different, and being the first at doing something, almost everyone wants to be par of a positive movement. Meeting people in the super market isle as they engage in conversations over our reusable jars and bags is so important and rewarding. It brings them in the movement, and little by little, they will feel confident bringing their own bags and jars.

Change cannot be done overnight, but with the help of everyone, discussing and inviting more and more to join in, we'll get there.

3. STRIP IT DOWN

Learning to do things ourselves with what we have and owning less to allow our minds the space to expand were possibly the most life changing for us.

Living small allows you to spend more time doing the things you truly love. For us, the moment we sold our belongings coincided with when we started to spend more time outdoors, enjoying simple things and connecting with each other.

You don't really need a closet full of clothes you don't wear and cupboards packed with items you don't use on a regular basis. I love owning less, and I find that it actually allows me to do a lot more. I get to move around a lot more, try new things, connect with people when I need to borrow or exchange something, be more creative.. and above all, stay connected with the world.

4. GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER

Which brings us to another good one : spending more time in nature. Spending time outdoors boosts our creativity, calms our mind and relaxes our body. Exercising outside, running in a park or hiking in the mountain is a lot more fulfilling to me than doing it with electric machines in a stuffy gym.

The simple fact of spending an hour or two outdoors everyday, looking around you, marveling at the beauty of it all can really help to keep things in perspective. We are here with all of these creatures, plants and eco-systems, they are not here for us.

Taking it all in regularly keeps us in check, we chose to live the way we do everyday because we want to preserve the earth.

So many of us are running after the day, chasing ideals of success and power when if we took some time to look around, we'd notice that this is all that we really need to thrive.

I like to think that the earth is a gracious host, who provides us with beauty, delicious food, incredible variety of lands and seas and so much love. Our duty is to witness it and take really good care of it.

KEEP YOUR LOVED ONES CLOSE, WITNESS THE SUN RAISING IN THE SKY, LISTEN TO THE BIRDS AND INSECTS FLY AROUND, PLANT YOUR FEET IN THE EARTH AND SEE ALL THAT YOU REALLY CAN DO.

See you in your inbox !
