DAILY TASKS TO DO IN FULL MINDFULNESS

DAILY TASKS TO DO IN FULL CONSCIOUSNESS

MINDFULNESS IS A CALMING STATE OF MIND AND THE BEST EVERYDAY TOOL

Slowing down does not need to mean doing less in our lives, but it can involve ideas and tricks to feel more relaxed and peaceful with our daily chores.

I like to use all of these daily moments to reconnect myself to the present moment. We spend so much of our lives running around, that we can use as many reminders as we can get !

Whenever I get to the end of the day exhausted and depleted, feeling overall empty, I know I wasn't connected. Somehow, staying connected to the present moment helps me to do more and for longer. I manage to cram more in my day and still feel energized by the end of the day.

HERE ARE SOME TYPICAL MOMENTS WHERE YOU CAN FIND YOUR OWN STATE OF AWARENESS AND GROUNDEDNESS (IF NOT A WORD, THEN SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE ONE !)

A MORNING TEA - waking up your senses

In the morning, when everything is still quiet and covered with a layer of sleeping dust, being mindful can take an even more powerful coat. Try as best you can to leave the phone off or on airplane mode to focus solely on yourself. Prep your morning drink of preference, I'm a tea drinker but Joaquin loves coffee, and make it in full consciousness.

Sitting with your warm cup, focus on the warmth in your hands, the vapors on your face, the sweet or spicy aroma and finally the taste. Stay fully present, analyzing each sensation and taking it all in. This little morning window of time might just be the pressure reliever that you needed for your day.

GRATITUDE JOURNAL - keep up with the beauty

Writing out your blessings is an incredible way to bring some simple positivity in your life. Although not every day is a good day, every day has some good in it, and putting your attention towards noticing it can help shift your perception. Try to write three things you are thankful for everyday, and truly feel every one of them. Sit for a few minutes with each one of them, re-living how they made you feel, and absorbing that positivity. Although it won't take away the bad, it will put a bit more weight behind the good.

PREPPING FOOD - waking the senses

Eating is a way to show just how much we love ourselves, three times a day. Although it is very convenient to have a quick bite on the go (and I'm the first to indulge), taking the time to prep our food is an incredible way to be mindful. The smells, textures and colors can help us feel grounded and focused on the task at hand. Try for just a few minutes each time you cook, to feel every action, to be mindful of any sound, taste and smell coming from your cooking. It will make it that much more delicious to enjoy.

EXERCISING - let your body bring you back

Exercising with your body is a big difference from exercising for your perception of your body. We all have an ideal of what we want to to look like, an idea of the perfect body. And a lot of the time, exercising is done to try to achieve a goal, not simply to enjoy the movement. But sports can be an incredible way to connect with ourselves. Feeling the body move, the breathing accelerate, the muscles stretch and strengthen.

Some forms of exercise help delve more in the movement of the body than others, like dance or yoga. But if you love to lift weights or run, try to stay with the movement, to feel your muscles working, your breath and heart beat accelerating, stay with the pressure of your feet on the ground and be fully present. This is the only way I know to enjoy exercising !

EATING AND ENJOYING FOOD - ground yourself

When we eat, all our senses are working. Dietitians, doctors or holistic practitioners will tell you to try to eat slowly and away from distractions. The reason is usually that when you are watching TV or your phone, you aren't as attentive to your body's signals for satiety. Another more mindful reason is that you won't enjoy your food as much. When we eat whilst doing something else, our mind cannot register the tastes and smells and we lose those small pleasures. If you don't have the time to properly sit down with a meal everyday, try to bring your awareness, even for a few minutes, on what you are eating. Feel the textures and tastes, and delve into a world of senses. This little gustative break will bring pleasure and a very grounding feeling for your body and mind.

TAKING A SHOWER - awareness to the mundane tasks

Shower time is something we do every day (or quite often anyways) and yet rarely put any attention to it. It is like brushing our teeth, we do it unconsciously. But if we try to bring awareness to this mundane task we discover a world of peaceful pleasures. From the warmth of the water on our skin, to the vapors and smells of soaps, showering can be a wonderfully grounding experience. Taking a mindful shower also develops a stronger connection with self care. Taking care of our bodies, brushing them and oiling them really does bring a soothing touch and a healing time into our day.

There are so many moments everyday that simply go by without us noticing. If we purposefully think of what we are doing, we create space in our minds and peaceful breaks during our day. If you are in the middle of a rushed afternoon and feel like you need a break, just sit with a cup of something warm or enjoy a small snack and you will reap the results throughout the rest of your day.
