Natural & Easy Face Cream Recipe

What I love about making my own skin care creams and oils, is that I can choose exactly what I want in it, tailoring them perfectly to fit my skin's needs. This recipe is the one that I use everyday on my face and neck, and I naturally have a  pretty dry skin, meaning that you can play around the amounts of fats and aloe vera used in this recipe to make it lighter if you tend to have an oiler skin.

You can make this cream using alternative oils and essential oils, according to your preferences. Our favorites essential oils for the skin are bergamot, lavender, grapefruit, citronella, neroli.. Oil replacements can be organic sunflower oil, avocado oil, Shea butter..

This facial cream is very nourishing and cooling, because I use 100% natural aloe vera gel. When using watery based ingredients (such as the aloe vera), you have a higher probability of inviting bacteria, this is why we use Vitamin E oil, a natural anti-oxydant and anti-bacterial base. You can find Vitamin E oil in most health shops.

You can also make this cream without the aloe vera, and get a much richer and concentrated balm, to use on extra dry parts of your body such as elbow, hands and feet. That base, without the aloe vera also makes a wonderful lip balm !

#1 MORE ON THE INGREDIENTS

As I said before, the beauty of making your own cream is playing around with the recipe to fit you exact needs. My skin has a dry tendency, so I made this recipe extra rich, and yet quite absorbing and cooking thanks to the aloe vera. If you have an oily skin, you might need to add more aloe vera. The good thing is that you can add it later on, if need be !

When using a watery based ingredients (such as the aloe vera), you have a higher probability of inviting bacteria and not being able to keep your cream as long. This is why we use vitamin e-oil, to serve as a natural antioxidant and anti-bacterial. I personally do not keep this cream in the fridge, but you can, for extra security and longevity.

If this aspect worries you, you can also make this cream without the aloe vera, and get a much richer and concentrated balm, to use on extra dry parts of your body such as elbow, hands and feet.

As this cream is based on natural ingredients, it may harden in the colder months and get runnier in the summer. This does not alter the properties of your cream. In the winter, simply rub it in between your hands until it melts into a cream like consistency again.

#2 STEP BY STEP

1. Make sure to clean your hands with soap and all of your tools before using them, as this will all end up on your face.

2. In a metal bowl, place the beeswax pellets, coconut oil and sweet almond oil. Place a pot of water over the stove, turned to medium heat and place the metal bowl on top, to gently melt your ingredients.

3. Once melted, take them off the heat and add 20 drops of rose absolute essential oil and the vitamin e-oil and whisk them together. You can then pour the aloe vera gel while whisking, until you get an even cream texture (no lumps).

It's time to try your cream consistency. Simply place some on the skin of your arm, and rub it in slowly. If in the next five minutes, your skin is still very oily, you can add more aloe vera, whisking it slowly and testing it on your skin again. If it absorbs it during that time, you are good to go.

4. Let the cream cool completely before spooning it into an air-tight container.  A glass jar would is preferred to plastic, as it will keep better and toxins from the plastic won't transfer to your cream.

You can store it in a cool place or in the fridge and use it up to six months !

Making facial cream and body lotion is the perfect blend between knowing how to be more self sufficient and taking everything that our society's research on skin care has to offer.

If you feel like using this cream on you body and would prefer using a manufactured face cream, I would like to recommend you choosing one with the simplest recipe and ingredients, to make sure you don't put any toxins and chemicals on your skin.

This recipe is easy and soft on both your skin and the planet. It has done wonders for me, and it has been so fun to play around with smells and textures, according to the seasons and my personal preferences !

I hope you can try this recipe and start making the most amazing creams, filled with smells and textures to suit your every mood.

Sending you extra love ! xx
