Some Kick-Ass

Zero Waste Goals

A lot of sustainable living is paved with do's and don'ts. How not to eat, what not too buy, why not to shop.. And of course, following these guidelines are a wonderful start to living a more sustainable life, but the approach we wanted to try today aims more are finding goals in sustainability, things to aspire to, to grow towards.

I've always worked with vision boards and co-creation. I firmly believe that what you truly desire, what you can imagine, feel, create in your mind will happen. Not just because of karmic energy but because if you think about it and feel it and are able to visualise it, you will instinctively do everything to stay closer to that goal.

When you keep a desire close to your heart and think about it and imagine it several times a day, you make things happen. With this in mind, I want you to imagine all of the things that sustainability can bring you. A simple life, full of experiences and laughter, a greener world, a kinder world.. Whatever it might be, I want you to try and visualise it, let your mind wrap itself around it completely until it is completely yours.

This is what I've done about three years ago now. I've imagined a life closer to nature, with less possessions, less anxiety, less money troubles, more simplicity, kindness, compassion, more time.. And I've created the life I live today?

Our life can not suit everyone, and I don't expect you to want it like we did, but wouldn't it be amazing to live the life you have envisioned and imagined ? Of course, this can extend to more than the sustainability front, but for us, it was really at the heart of it all, so that's where we started... And maybe you can too !

IN THIS ARTICLE WE SHARE AL OF THE GOALS WE WROTE DOWN A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAVE REACHED, TO BRING MORE SUSTAINABILITY IN OUR LIVES AND YOURS.

NOURISH

Sharing delicious and nutritious recipes and solutions toward better living.

I think that if you want to get yourself closer to an ideal, you have to remind yourself of why, and do it very often. I am an environmentalist and I want what is best for the world and all of it's inhabitants. But sometimes life prevails and I feel overwhelmed and lose sight of why I'm not doing like everyone else is, and making my life a little easier..

The cure to that for me, is to spend time outdoors. When I reconnect with nature, the beauty and the simplicity of it, but also it's fragility, I remember why I chose to live the way I do, and why it is so important to do so !

Spending some quality time outside, swimming in lakes and rivers, hiking mountains and natural parks, cycling through the forest and listening to the waves crash on the shore, everything falls back into place.

2# BEING FREE

Although this was not an original plan of ours, it became very apparent that to live more sustainable lives, we needed to do it with less. Invest in some everlasting pieces and slow fashion clothes, reduce the amount of things we owned and follow what truly made us vibrate with life - adventures.

The absolute pleasure of owning less is that you don't stress about what you have, you don't feel overwhelmed or anxious about not having enough, not fitting in.. you simply live with what you need, loving every piece and letting your mind go towards what truly matters.

3# FINDING YOUR COMMUNITY

(Volunteering is taking action to support something you believe in. It allows you to take a step towards achieving what you want for the world and for yourself. It is affirming your believes and opening your heart to others, but also trusting your judgement enough to invest time and effort into what you feel is right. It is possibly the best form of self and community empowerment there is.

The world needs more selflessness and kindness, and giving yourself this gift is one of the best reasons to become sustainable.)

4# AFFIRMING YOURSELF

IMG_3895.jpg

If nothing else, living zero waste has allowed me to practice my "no thanks" and affirm myself. Some people have still never heard of the zero waste movement, and are wrapped up in their own lives and worries, and I see it as my duty to show them what you can do when you reduce your plastic foot print. In cafes, when I ask for a take away coffee in my reusable cup, some people don't understand and others find it wonderful.

To all the people who do not understand and frankly don't really want to do their job differently because what difference is it going to make really, I smile, and stay kind and explain very quickly that I am trying to reduce my waste and would love for them to help me refill my olive oil jar, use my bags for the bread or avoid giving me plastic straws.

I really believe that with kindness, you can get anywhere.. Now it has happened of course that some supermarkets in Italy wouldn't let me use my own bags, or some waiter said he absolutely had to put a straw in every drink.

But you know what, stuff happens, and I'm enough of a positive person to see that I've avoided so much plastic already, so one step back is not the end of the world..

Zero waste has allowed me to get very sure of how I want to live my life and why, and stay firm and kind with others to share those ideas of planetary love. And with every cup of coffee, I know I plant a little seed in the hearts and minds of people around me, helping them get closer and closer to seeing the importance of zero wasting.

5# REACHING PEACE OF MIND

If this isn't an amazing goal to work towards, than I don't know what is ! Being at peace with your decisions, with what you believe in , with the type of print you are living on the world.. Well that is worth it all.

6# LEARNING NEW SKILLS

I use to think that soap could only be bought or made in factories, that face creams had to come in tubes and so did medicines. I use to think that you needed to be full of skills to make your own bread and have a lot of time to knit hats and gloves.

But little by little, I've started to learn how to make things myself, how to strip it down to the bear minimum of ingredients and learn how magical nature can be.

Once you start, t's hard to stop.. There is so much to learn !

I can assure you that making things yourself is not only easy but incredibly empowering. And if learning how to make your own bouillon cubes is not something you've always dreamed of, you'll quickly see that some brands know how to stick to the healthy ingredients when others add as much crap as they possibly can.

No matter what kind of sustainability you chose, they all go in the same direction. Trust yourself, you are doing great.

#7 BEING AN EXAMPLE

In a way, we are ambassadors of the sustainability movement to everyone we meet, just like commercials, surrounding us everyday.

Every time someone sees you using a reusable cup or cotton bag in the super market, every time someone tries your homemade lotion or natural cleaning product you've made, you are leaving an impression, a sign that sustainability is more than a hippie movement, it's an essential action taken for our community, and is just as easy as going the traditional wasteful route.

There are few things in life as powerful as standing your ground on supporting something you believe in. Matching your everyday life with your true beliefs is like aligning ourself in the direction you think is best, pursuing your desires and following your heart.

It is empowering, unifying and unbelievably beautiful.

I hope these goals can bring you the little nudge you were looking for, or the support deserve in going forward with this lifestyle.

We are all in this together ! xx
